I’m not sure if it’s a sign of getting old older, but I seem to be steering away from commercial holidays this year. To be fair, Stephen and I have never been big fans of Valentine’s Day, but have always made a bit of a fuss on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. And yes – I go BIG at Christmas. I can’t help it – it’s such a magical time of the year.
But when it came to Mother’s Day this year, all I really wanted was a special card. That’s it. In fact, Stephen was so worried that he made me have a little lie down with a cold facecloth on my forehead. The thing is – I didn’t want more STUFF that had been bought because it was expected. And if I am very honest, there is very little that I actually want or need right now. What I am really craving is TRAVEL – I want to see the world and experience different cultures and see the sites and sit in little cafés watching the world go by. I want experiences, not things. Memories not mementos.
And so, for Father’s Day (19 June), we will be keeping it meaningful yet simple. Kayla (10) has decided that she would like to make Stephen the world’s best waffles (so much for my 30- Day Sugar-free challenge!), Bella (3) wants to “dwaw Daddy a picture”, and I’m keen to find something a little different to give him as a gift.
