Getting back on that horse!

September 6, 2016

My girls are FINALLY back at school – and while I would love to tell you that I am heart-broken at not having them home all day every day, the truth is that I am relieved. Those four hours that Isabella (3) is at nursery school makes the hugest difference to my productivity, and to be honest, the school holidays have found me slipping back into some of the bad habits I worked so hard to break at the beginning of the year! In other words:

  • Too much time on Facebook
  • Reacting to the day instead of planning what I would like to accomplish
  • Not setting out clear goals at the beginning of the month
  • General lack of planning – in terms of our groceries, social calendar, activities, exercise and downtime

It would really be SO much easier if I was perfect. Then again, I gave up trying to be a good example years ago. I am now just a horrible warning!

A simpler veggie garden

August 22, 2016

Years ago, when work stress was at its highest and my health was at its lowest, a friend dropped by unannounced with a belated birthday present for me. To be honest, I wasn’t really in the mood for company, but her visit turned out to be one of the highlights of that year, and something I will always remember. The gift was a copy of Jane’s Delicious Garden, a duck egg blue gardening trowel and a packet of tomato seeds, with an accompanying note that said, “It is impossible to feel stressed or sad when you are eating sun-ripened tomatoes from your garden.”

A challenge I took to heart! Seven years later, I can categorically state that it is, indeed, impossible to feel anything other than pure contentment while you are eating tomatoes, sugar snap peas, strawberries, celery, beans and carrots that have been picked, given a quick wash, and devoured outdoors.

30 Day Challenge – Day 29

July 29, 2016

It’s Day 29 – time to tackle your BOOKS! To be perfectly honest, this was a task that I imagined was going to much harder than it was. I read a LOT, and become way too sentimental about books that I have loved. I end up lending them to everyone I know, before housing them lovingly in our big library unit. The problem is that I very seldom re-read books, which means that I have every book every written by my favourite authors gathering dust on the shelf!
